Class Calendar: October 13th to October 20th

Monday, October 13th
• No school today. Enjoy the long weekend!

Tuesday, October 14th (U)
• Due: Literacy narrative in hard copy, MLA format, with rough draft, peer feedback, and literacy timelines attached. Come prepared for presentations on Rules #1-5.
• Class: Begin group presentations on the “Elementary Rules of Usage” in Elements of Style, Rules #1-5. Practice exercises and discussion.

Wednesday, October 15th (M)
• Due: Complete the following online exercises and print your results: P1-1, P2-1, P3-1, and P5-1. See below for directions!
• Class: Continue with group presentations on the “Elementary Rules of Usage” in Elements of Style, Rules #6-11. Practice exercises and discussion.

Thursday, October 16th (T)
• Due: Complete the following exercises online and print your results: P4-1, P7-1, G5-1, G1-3, G3-1, and S3-3.
• Class: Wrap up remaining group presentations. Sentence errors and multiple choice strategy for the PSAT.

Friday, October 17th (W)
• Due: Prepare for cumulative grammar and usage quiz. Complete the following exercises online and print your results: G5-2, G1-1, G3-10, S3-2.
• Class: Grammar and usage quiz. Anglo-Saxon vs. Latinate diction.

Monday, October 20th (H)
• Due: Writing exercise on rhetoric: “Community and Consumption” (see reverse of class calendar handout or click here).
• Class: Share exercises. Wrap up Anglo-Saxon vs. Latinate diction. Introduction to and first assignment in 40 Model Essays.

To access the online grammar exercises:

• Go to the Writer's Reference site.
• Click on “Grammar Exercises.”
• When prompted to login, click “Cancel.”
• Select the assigned exercises from the menu.

To print the online exercises (and save paper, improving your tree karma):

• Once you have completed the exercise, click Score.
• Click Print Record.
• Before printing, select Properties in the printer dialogue box.
• Click on the Finishing tab and select “2 pages per sheet” or “4 pages per sheet” under “Pages per Sheet and Posters.”
