Tuesday, September 23rd (U)
• Due: Revised practice exam essay. We’ll also collect original drafts for all three prompts.
• Class: Housekeeping and debrief on last week; lesson on annotation.

Wednesday, September 24th (M)
• Due: Close reading and annotation: Frederick Douglass and Malcolm X essays.
• Class: Discussion of essays, the relationship of language and power.

Thursday, September 25th (T)
• Due: Close reading and annotation: Amy Tan and Richard Rodriguez essays.
• Class: Discussion of essays, communities of discourse and the language of privilege.

Friday, September 26th (W)
• Due: Close reading and annotation: Eudora Welty and David Sedaris essays.
• Class: Discussion of essays, style and voice; audio clip and multiple choice.

Monday, September 29th (H)
• Due: Illustrated literacy timeline; close reading and annotation of Mike Rose essay.
• Class: The writing process; share timelines; narrowing the focus. Explain upcoming panel discussion and assign groups.

Note: I will not be in school on Tuesday, September 30th. You’ll be preparing for our Literary Luminaries Panel Discussion in my absence (yeah, I’ll explain that more soon). If you are not going to be in school yourself, you be given alternate responsibilities.
