Monday, November 3rd (U)
• Due: Peer review of “narrative” one-pagers.
• Class: Review calendar and research paper blog post assignment; campaign advertising and the means of persuasion.

Tuesday, November 4th
• No classes for students today. Enjoy the day off!

Wednesday, November 5th (M)
• Due: Read and carefully annotate “She’s Your Basic L.O.L. in N.A.D.” by Perri Klass and “Homeless” by Anna Quindlen. Begin working on your contribution to the research paper collective topic brainstorm (see blog for assignment details; deadline is Thursday).
• Class: Discussion on the power of language and labels. Excerpts from Nickel and Dimed and The New York Times.

Thursday, November 6th (T)
• Due: Read and carefully annotate “Remembering My Childhood on the Continent of Africa” by David Sedaris and “Black Men and Public Space” by Brent Staples. Read “Little Things Are Big” by Jesus Colon. Prepare discussion questions for class.
• Class: Discussion of essays (“Socratic seminar” or “Fishbowl” methodology).

Friday, November 7th (W)
• Due: Read the introduction to the “Example” section of the anthology. Then complete a one-pager in the example mode on any of the following writing topics: p. 103, #3; p. 107, #1; p. 119, #2 or 3. Don’t forget to identify your thesis or statement of purpose (reread the directions for one-pagers if necessary).

Reminder: Blog posts are due before you go to bed on Thursday!

• Class: Wrapping up loose ends; formal introduction to the research paper.

Monday, November 10th (H)
• Due: Peer review of “example” one-pagers. Read and carefully annotate “Why Don’t We Complain” by William F. Buckley, Jr. and “Professions for Women” by Virginia Woolf.
• Class: Introduction to logic and argument.

Note: There is no school on Tuesday, November 11th (what’s the deal Tuesdays and November?), so if you are for any reason absent on Monday, check the class blog at http://kitsis.blogspot.com. We’re looking at a busy couple of months, so it’s crucial not to fall behind.
